Transfer to Machame Gate and begin the ascent of Mt. Kilimanjaro via Machame Route. Upon completion of entry formalities, begin walking through the rainforest with mist and sometimes wet land on a 4×4 truck way. The trackway ends, and the trail continues up through the dripping, verdant forest.
Trekkers will likely hear the many exotic birds in the canopy above, and many even see black & white colobus monkeys and sykes monkeys as they hike along the forest floor. The trek is quite long, though not very steep, and it takes from 5 to 7 hours trekking to reach the first camp. Machame Camp is just above the forest zone, in the heather zone. When it is clear, there are views of jagged Shira ridge and the summit itself.
You wake up early in the morning with a cup of tea and a well prepared hot breakfast on the table, enjoy morning talk with your fellow trekkers and the team while enjoying your first breakfast in Kilimanjaro.
After breakfast, you begin up the steep way, through the savannah of tall grasses and trees before entering the moorland zone which is marked by volcanic rocks offering a clear far view of the white glacius found on top of Mount Kilimanjaro.
On this day, after 4-5 hours of normal walking you will be at the camp, relaxing, showering and having dinner then day briefing with your chief guide before bed.
Early morning wake up, have your breakfast, get ready for another day of Kili adventure. After breakfast, proceed walking steadily upward along the long desert zone for about 4 hours of casual walking and have a break for lunch at an elevation of about 4,420m high.
After lunch proceed to Lava tower, a 300 foot tall volcanic plug. You will have another short break at Lava Tower before starting descending via a steep way down to the great Barranco Valley where you will camp , have dinner and stay for a night.
This is a good day for acclimation as trekkers trek high and sleep low. Trekking Time on this day is between 6 – 7 hours.
The day begins with a scramble up the steep ‘Barranco Wall’, then we trek 3-4 hours and stop in the Karanga Valley for a hot lunch. In the afternoon the trail turns steadily uphill. The temperature will grow colder and the landscape more sparse as we near Barafu Camp. Barafu Camp is set on a small, exposed flat area on a ridge, acting as a base camp from which you will make your summit attempt at midnight tonight. Eat and drink as much as possible before retiring to your tent for rest and sleep.
A midnight wake up call is the start of a trekking journey to the summit of the tallest Mountain in Africa, a trek of about 12-17 hours. This tremendous journey starts between 12:00am and 01:00am. At midnight the temperature range will be down just below freezing. After about 6 hours of walking, you will come to the edge of the crater, at Stella Point, at 19,000 feet (5,790 mt.)
An early arrival at Stella point will grant you a great chance to experience a spectacular sunrise you ever had before rising beneath clouds.
After a short time at the summit, descend the steep scree trail back to Barafu Camp for some rest, then again summon your strength for further descent to Mweka Camp for the night.
Descend straight to the gate (2-4 hours), where you’ll have lunch and be awarded with climbing certificates. On arrival at the gate you will have lunch, and a final day celebration with the whole crew then you will be transferred to Moshi or Arusha for dinner and overnight looking forward to other activities in the following days of your holiday.

Kate BVerified So good we want to come back again ASAP for another safari area and will definitely book with Experience Safaris. Our recent 10 day Safari truly answered any “bucket list” desires we had about experiencing Wild Africa. Reggie was with us constantly for 10 days and we came to love him in a whole new way: as a guide/protector/friend/son. He knows all the areas we visited so well that it seemed as if he put in an order for a certain animal to appear sometimes as we rounded a corner or gently drove up to a remote area that just looked like dry bush grass but lo and behold the lion cubs! We had a few unexpected adventures such as vehicle troubles, but Reggie calmly and systematically handled those issues like a true professional. With so much time together we were able to talk about just about everything from cultural differences to animal habitat. He is vastly knowledgeable about so many aspects of nature, well beyond what one might expect from a typical “let’s just see what we can find today” approach. We are so glad to have committed to the 10 day safari instead of the rush a shorter one would have been. Reggie adapted everything to our pace, which we greatly appreciated. He is a man of grace, integrity, humour and great kindness- he has the servant’s heart and no request was any problem to him. Hakuna matata was our motto. If we were to recommend one change to our long safari it would be to fly the long distances with our guide, which they can arrange. We cannot recommend Experience Safaris highly enough. Rob BlickleVerified Exceeded our bucket list expectations After a 10 day safari, I'm Reggie's biggest fan. His enthusiastic spirit is as big as the great outdoors. With his capable hands on the safari jeep's wheel, every day was truly the adventure of a lifetime. You couldn't ask for anything more on a wildlife tour in the most exciting location on the planet. I was in awe of his broad knowledge of Tanzania's flora and fauna. His deep love and respect for the people and animals of his home country is a pure pleasure to experience. Discover the heart of Africa with this dependable and enjoyable young man. Aida ZVerified Wonderful! Unforgettable !
